La Academia de España takes place in the Colegio Mayor Fray Luis de León, within Salamanca’s world famous, UNESCO-listed historic center, and abutting the main university buildings. The residence is purpose built, with most students sharing en-suite doubles. Students meet their classes and eat breakfast and supper in the residence.
Alongside program-wide field-trips to Madrid, Segovia, and the Douro Valley, our Activities Directors organize daily outings to give students every possibility to discover Salamanca and its environs. Every day offers-up something new: tours of the cathedrals (there are two), of the city’s beautiful convents, of historic university buildings, of the archives, and of museums. Students also immerse themselves in Spanish life: they visit markets, go on food-tours, listen to the famous traveling musicians, or enjoy tapas on the Plaza Mayor, reputedly the most beautiful square in Europe. They also relax by playing five-aside, basketball, doing yoga, going swimming, jogging, or boating on the Douro.

PROGRAM ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE
Students are met in Madrid Barajas International Airport and escorted to Salamanca. At the end of the program, they are accompanied back to Madrid, where we oversee the transfer to their next flight. A representative stays at the airport until every flight has departed.
SAFETY AND SUPERVISION
The Colegio lies in the center of Salamanca, in a quiet neighborhood. Access is strictly controlled and there is twenty-four hour security. Day-to-day life is overseen by teams of Deans - professional educators drawn from leading schools in the US, Canada, and Australia. The residence has a program office, in a central location, which is open and permanently staffed by Deans from before 8am until well past midnight. Every student checks in personally, every evening, with the Deans on duty. The Program Director, Deans, residential staff, and some members of faculty live in the residences, ensuring round-the-clock care and supervision.
